The Women Who Guarded the Bridge

SOMEONE HAD TO GUARD THE BRIDGE.
THEY DECIDED IT WOULD BE THEM.

The men had marched away. Rumors of danger filled the town. And beyond a bend in the road, a wooden bridge stood waiting.

In the spring of 1775, as the American Revolution began, Prudence Wright and her neighbors faced a daring question: What could they do to help protect their community?

Their answer would become a story worth remembering.

Dressed in borrowed clothing and carrying muskets and farm tools, the women gathered at the crossing. Then, out of the darkness, came the sound of hoofbeats.

Who was approaching—and what would happen when the rider reached their guard?

Based on historical accounts, The Women Who Guarded the Bridge introduces young readers to a remarkable group of ordinary women whose courage brought them together when their town needed them.

You don’t have to be famous to make history. Sometimes, you just have to step forward.
